The idea for a social networking site which focused on developing lasting friendships offline, and which aimed to make it easy for professional newcomers to cities to meet new people, was first developed in 2004 by London-based CEO & founder of CitySocialising, Sanchita Saha. She originally thought up the idea as she watched many of her peers move to London only to feel isolated with no way of easily meeting like-minded people to go out with.

In 2005, with support from the Prince's Trust, Sanchita developed a trial website. Her ambition was to create a steadfast online and offline London community for affable, laid-back professionals to connect with each other in the real world.

The first site was launched in January 2007 but it wasn't long before other cities saw the site and decided that their city needed the same treatment. After the first site was such a success Sanchita turned her hand at creating seven more sites for seven more cities which were launched in October 2007. The success of these sites allowed further cities to be added to the network in 2009 including this CitySocialising service for Cardiff.
